Why Should we Tithe (Part 1 - 04/25/04)

To give tithes is a spiritual and moral duty of every believer because:

I. THE DIVINE LAW ORDERS ME TO TITHE – The principle of tithing was known and observed by the patriarchs as divine and eternal. That’s why it is incorporated in Moses' Law and ordained by the prophets of the Old Testament, as a show of faith. ( Leviticus 27:30 ; Malachi 3:8 ).
II. THE BIBLICAL STEWARD INCLUDES TITHING – The practice of Christian stewardship involves all the areas of human life. The stewardship of the material things is part of the faithfulness of the children of God. Tithing is a concrete way of showing stewardship in the life of a believer. The bible is very clear regarding liberal, regular and proportional contribution from the disciple of Jesus Christ.
III. THE NEEDS OF THE WORK REQUIRE TITHING - The spiritual and physical hunger of today’s world is so great that we can’t give less than our tithes. We should give much more. The situation of millions of people without Christ, without hope and without food should disturb our conscience. What would a church do if all of its members were faithfully tithing? ( Romans 1:14-15 ; II Corinthians 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ).
