Text: Acts 13: 1-4
Introduction.
- Church in Antioch was formed by a great variety of people. - The preachers and professors, leaders, carried out the worship. - They practice the fast. The Holy Spirit guides them to separate Paulo and Barnabas. - This was the beginning to first missionary journey. (Paul, Barnabas and Mark) - They left Antioch for the island of Cyprus. - "The church is not a fortitude, is a port"
01. First ministry of the Church: Adoration
- Acts 13:2 "... While they were worshiping the Lord.. " - Illustration: Garden of the Eden. Genesis 3:8. In the end of the afternoon a visit from God. - Illustration: The apostles. Mark 3:13. Called them for to be with him. - Illustration: Young Joshua. Exodus 33: 11. Never left the tent. - Sin ruined our relationship with God. - The cross reestablished this relationship. The divine united to the human. - Life with God, in the first place. Matthew 6:33
02. Second ministry of the Church: Edifying
- Acts 13:2b. The united church, the Holy Spirit acting. - Worship happens. God shows the direction. - Moment of joy for the one that sends and for the ones that are sent. - Illustration: Oxygen masks in airplanes. - Galatians 6:10. "... first servants of the faith." - The communion of the church should promote edifying, strengthening. - With time communion should improve, not get worse.
03. Third ministry of the Church: Evangelize.
- Odd: Should not this be the first ministry of the Church? - How to evangelize if I am not in the presence of God? - How to evangelize if I am not being edified? - Two examples:
01. In the Old Testament: Isaiah 6. - God’s Vision - Vision of himself. - Vision of the world. 02. In the New Testament: Acts 1: 14 Vision of himself, anointed. Acts 2: 1-4 Vision of the lost ones. Acts 2: 37-40
Conclusion.
- If we maintain the correct order: Adoration followed by edifying, evangelism will happen naturally. - Upon lack of adoration in our lives, and edifying, there will be a lack of unction to give testimony. - Let’s begin the year with these ministries very clear in our heart.
