Text: Hosea 1:1-2
Introduction
- The name of Hosea means salvation. The same meaning as the name of Jesus. - Two prophets suffered a lot in the old testament, Jeremiah and Hosea - Hosea 9:8 he talks about himself:” They tried to catch me everywhere “ -Hosea called the people to repentance; otherwise they would go to captivity. - He failed; the people didn’t listen to him. - Hosea 9:7. The people say: This prophet is a fool. He says he is inspired, but he is a fool.
A) God and Israel. - In the book of Hosea, God is presented, in figurative language, as the husband of Israel. - God describes his relationship with the people, as a husband and wife’s relationship. - When they arrived at the promise land, the people begin to adore Baal. - The people committed spiritual adultery. - The commitment made in Mount Sinai could have been broken by God, but he didn’t do it. - Hosea 2:14-15. God takes people back to the desert. - In the days of Joshua it was a valley of hope. Because of Achan’s sin, it transformed in a valley of disgrace and pain. - Now, the people are back in this valley, which transforms in a door of hope. B) Hosea and Gomer
- How could Hosea understand the love of God for Israel? -Hosea 1:1-2. Receive the order to marry a prostitute. - A summary of the story: Hosea who was still a young man fell in love with a young woman named Gomer. They got married and were happy for a while. They had three children. - After the birth of the third child, Gomer leaves the house and go live as a prostitute. - Gomer comes to a very difficult situation and offers herself in a market to be sold as slave. Hosea buys Gomer. Takes her home and places her in a separate room. C) God and us
-Three Lessons: 1. Hosea and Gomer lived together, happy in the same house. We, in the same way lived in paradise. Genesis 2:15
2. We decided to stay away from God, like Gomer stayed way from her house. Genesis 3:6-8
3. Hosea went to the market of slaves and bought Gomer. Just like God did to us. Galatians 4: 4-5
Conclusion - After a time of reflection, did Gomer go back to her husband and children? - We don’t know. We believe she did. Why? - Hosea 11:4. Love is like a strong rope that ties us. - “Just love destroys.” What does love destroy? Let’s make a list
