Leaving Kadesh and Returning to Kadesh - (03/06/05 - Night)

Text: Numbers 14: 1-8

Introduction.

- After one year the people go from Mount Sinai to Kadesh.   Numbers 10:11
- When they arrived at Kadesh in May of the second year of pilgrimage.
- There were 12 spies sent from Kadesh.
- Ten people bring discouraging news. Numbers 13: 26-29
- In January of the fourth year (40) the people return to Kadesh.
-Mount Sinai- Kadesh- Desert- Kadesh
- Reasons for a sad 40 year journey.

01. The way that 10 spies saw the earth.

- Ten were the majority. What do you do when you are the minority?
-The majority elevated the golden calf.
- The majority wanted to stone Paul. Acts 14: 11 and 14:19.
- Ten pessimist men. I - Difficulty- God.
- Two optimist men: I - God- Difficulty
- We faced the “outside giants.”
- We also have the “inside giants” in us.
- We always fail when we compare our difficulties and our strengths.

02. The incredibility prevailed.

- Numbers 14:4 “...let’s return to Egypt.”
- It like saying today: I am going to return to the world.
- Numbers 14: 29- 30. Only Joshua and Caleb would enter the promise land.
- Numbers 13:25. The spies took only 40 days to travel and enter the land.
- The people changed 40 days to 40 years.
- The prejudice of fear. The prejudice of believing in God.
- We fear what people will say.
- We fear to believe in God.

03. The reality of the obstacles.

- Numbers 13:30. Caleb knew the obstacles.
- But the faithfully servant wants the blessings for his life and other people’s life.
- Numbers 14:9b.

Conclusion.

- Numbers 33 “...and they left....” “...and camped.”
- Painful planned trip.
- Without getting anywhere.
- A life in a circle. Leaving Kadesh and returning to Kadesh.
- Our life is the same way when we doubt. Defeat. Discouraged.
- The opposite of doubt is certainty.
- The worse of all doubts is the spiritual one.
- Where will you spend eternity?
