Lessons from Noah’s Ark - (01/30/05)

Text: Genesis 6:13-22

Introduction

- The ark was 148.5 meters long, 24.75 meters wide and 14 meters high.

- Three floors, totalizing 11.140 square meters. Genesis 6:16

- The space was enough for Noah, his family, the animals and the food.

- Possibly it was rounded, because it would only float.

- In Matthew 24:36-39 Jesus refers to the flood.

01. Genesis 7:13 . Few people were saved.

- I Peter 3:20, the New Testament confirms that only 8 people were saved.

- Millions of people died.

- Genesis 19:12-13. The contrast with Job’s family.

- Genesis 6:22 and Hebrews 11:7 show Noah’s obedience.

- Romans 5:19. Jesus’ obedience saving the world.

- Matthew 7:13 and 14. The narrow and the wide gate.

02. Genesis 6:19-20 . Smelled bad.

- This happens in long trips by bus or plane. Imagine in the ark.

- Genesis 7:12. 40 days and 40 nights.

- In the beginning it was a great new but then comes stress.

- It’s like the church. Why?

"Church is the place where different people meet"

- Pr. Marcílio: "Churches are good , some people are complicated."

- But even "smelling bad"; it’s still the best place in the world.

- Genesis 7:24. After three and half months the rain stopped.

- "Church: the most secure place on earth" (Lerry G.)

03. Genesis 7:16. The door was shut from outside.

- Noah could not open it. Millions of people were screaming outside: "Open it, Open it!"

- Illustration: Matthew 25. "Ten Virgins". Matthew 25:10 "the door was shut"

- Matthew 25:34 and Matthew 25:41. When Jesus comes back there will be separation.

- Our home’s door closed makes us feel bad; imagine the doors of the heavens closed.

- John 10:7. It’s open today so you may come in. It’s the time.

Conclusion

- Genesis 8:7-8. The raven kept flying back and forth, and the dove couldn’t find place to set its feet.

- Application: "The Raven Believer and the Dove Believer"

- Genesis 8:18-20. Noah worships the Lord in a Thanksgiving Service.

- What was Noah’s first thought? Give thanks.

- What is your first thought when you are blessed?

- It’s important to give thanks.

- The ark today represents the church. Accept Jesus and ask for your baptism.

- The end of the world is near. The destruction will be greater then the flood.
