Washed,Sanctified and Justified - (01/16/05)

Text: I Corinthians 6:9-11

Introduction

In I Corinthians 6:1-8 Paul deals with the believers' problems going to secular courts.

He had two worries about this:

a)Their spiritual growth.
b)Their testimony in the city.

According to what we learned in Romans 13:1-7,  Paul is clear about the submission to the authorities.

He is not underestimating the Roman Courts.

I Corinthians 6:9-11. We have a list of those who will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

People who are used to this kind of life, will not inherit Heaven.

In Matthew 13:41-43 , Jesus talks about the ones who will inherit the Kingdom Of God.

"Some of you were like this once" I Corinthians 5:17. But now we are new creatures.

How does it happen?Through the power of the gospel.

Seneca,a philosopher who lived at the same time Paul did, used to say:

"People love and hate their bad habits at the same time."

This is a drama that can be solved only through the Power of the Gospel.

A) Washed.

It's when we first give ourselves to Christ.

Illustration: John 13:10. "Not everyone is clean."

Conversion is an "act of God".

We hear the Word of God and are washed away by it.

Moody used to say:This book will make avoid sin or sin will make me avoid this book."

B) Sanctified.

This word appears 100 times in the Old Testament and 30 times in the New Testament.

It means separate.Separate for a special work.

Example:Jesus.Separate to come to this world and do a special work.

Sanctification is a process. The Holy Spirit changing us.Making us "copies " of Jesus.

C) Justified.

A judge cannot free a guilty man and condemn an innocent one.

God is a just judge.

Romans 3:26 "all have sinned".What about now?How can I reach justification if I'm guilty?

II Corinthians 5:17 "if one is in Christ."

Then the old life is gone.

We were born in a Devil world.

In Christ we become new persons. We receive God's nature. We are under a new head,Christ.

When we stand before the judgement seat of God (spiritual) having Jesus (without sin) we are considered innocent.God sees Jesus in us.

Conclusion.

Revelation 7:9-17

Verse 14 says: " they washed their clothes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white."

Verse 9 says: "white clothes'(purified) palm branches in their hands (sign of victory)

Verse 9 says:"a great crowd" Will you be among them? It's the group of the saved ones.
