The way to the Knowledge of the Lord -(10/24/04 - night)
Text: II Chronicles 33:11-13
Introduction.
- Manasseh was the son of the good king Hezekiah. - II Chronicles 33:1 says he became king at 12 years old. - He was the opposite of his father. - II Chronicles 33:2-3. He allowed idolatry in Israel - He spilled innocent blood. Never listen to the prophets. - As a bad kind, does he come to know God and change his live?
A) He is captive.
- II Chronicles 33:11 - The Assyria's army took him as a prisoner, tied. -Illustration: Acts 16. The jailer of Philippi needed an earthquake in his life. - II Chronicles 33:10 - The voice Manasseh heard was the voice of the prophet Isaiah. - The tradition says that Manasseh order Isaiah to be cut in half. - God may use tree kinds of keys to open hearts: iron, bronze, gold. - Don't wait for a tragedy in your life to seek God.
B) He prays.
- II Chronicles 33:12 - In his distress he sought the favor of the Lord. - II Chronicles 33:12 says God heard Manasseh's prayer. - God hears the worst sinner, when he repents. - Romans 10:9. To confess with your mouth. - Illustration: Jonah, in the deepness of the sea, in the fish belly, he prayed. - Jonah says: "And you heard my voice"
C) He humbled himself
- II Chronicles 33:12b - He remembered his parent's God. - II Chronicles 33:6 - He sacrificed his own son in an Evil ritual. - II Chronicles 33:6 - He put idols in the sanctuary of the Lord. - II Chronicles 33:6b - "... He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord."
Conclusion.
- Manasseh means "forgetting" - He forgot God and was the most pervert king in Israel. - Have you forgotten God and His blessings? - II Chronicles 33:13b "Then Manasseh knew that the Lord is God." - After repenting, he was brought back to his kingdom and reigned 55 years more. The longest kingdom. - Proverbs 29:1 "...will suddenly be destroyed without remedy."
