But those who hope in the Lord - (10/10/04)
Text: Isaiah 40:28-31
Introduction
.
- The eagle story: Lives for 70 years (Psalm 90:10)
- At age 40 it goes through an "existential crisis”.
- It needs to do some things to live 30 years more.
1. The big nails can’t hold the food anymore.
2. The beak is too long and bents.
3. The wings are old and heavy impeding it from flying
A) The eagle then has two alternatives:
1. To die because it doesn’t eat or fly anymore.
2. Goes through a deep transformation which takes 150 days.
B) How does the process of transformation happen?
1. To fly to a high place and stay alone.
2. To hit its beak on a rock until it falls off.
3. Wait for the new beak to grow.
4. With its new beak, they take off the old and long nails.
5. Wait for new nails to grow.
6. Now they can pull away the old wings.
7. Wait for new wings to grow.
8. Does the “renewing flight”
9. And lives for 30 years more.
- Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles...”
- Conclusion
- Learning with the eagles, before the challenges of CHANGING.
a) To erase the past remembrances.
b) To remove bad feelings from the heart.
c) To improve our self-esteem. What does God think of me?
d) To change my way of thinking. We have Christ’s mind.
e) To change my habits which are destructing our lives and other people’s lives.
