 | | | Overcoming Worries - 01/25/04 |
Introduction:
To compare this text with the previous parable of "The man who God called crazy". Why did God call him crazy? Because he left God out of his life.
| 01. | JESUS VALUES LIFE MORE THAN THE THINGS THAT SUSTAIN IT Luke 12:23 and Luke 12:29 . |
- What do we value? To eat, to drink, to dress. Be careful. All good things. To eat becomes gluttony. To drink becomes drunkenness. To dress becomes vanity. Luke Luke 4:4 . We need to see life from God's point of view.
- 2 illustrations: The ravens, Luke 12:24 , God feeds them.
The Lilies, Luke 12:22-27 , more beautiful than Solomon's dresses.
- Application: God knows that we need food and clothing
| 02. | ONLY GOD CAN SOLVE WHAT OUR WORRIES CAN'T. Luke 12:25 |
- To add an ell to our height. (0.56 cm)
- Here in the sense of "one more day in our life".
- Philippians 4:6 .
It's the exercise we need the most. Prayer. To pray, already giving thanks. Why? We pray already being worried.
- Two moments in the life of Jesus:
| 1. | Mark 6:7-9 He oriented this way because that's the way he lived. |
| 2. | Matthew 17:24-27 He arrived in Capernaum without money. |
- Psalms 23:1
"The Lord is my shepherd…" Sure, I believe this. "...I shall not be in want..." Is that so? We doubt it.
- Forethought is good. But can lead us to greed. Be careful with this temptation.
| 03. | GOD LOVES US ABOVE ALL THINGS. Luke 12:28 |
| 1. | Matthew 8:28-34 Two men are worthy more than two thousand pigs. |
| 2. | Romans 8:32 The proof of God's love for us. |
- Luke 12:33 "Sell and give to the poor". To get rid of what harms your relationship with God.
- Luke 12:34 Be careful with blessing that become curses. (Two cars, a beach house, a good job, close relatives). Do not let them move you away from God. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also".
- Proverbs 11:24 and Proverbs 10:22.
Conclusion:
- Luke 12:31 "But seek his kingdom first". Why? All other kingdoms will be destroyed.
- Give God the first place. We are making an inversion.
First all things, and then God. BE careful. Is God to be blamed if you are overweight? Is God to be blamed if you are full of debts? Is God to be blamed if you are spiritually cold?
- Psalms 37:25 An elderly man's conclusion.
- Detachment of material and fondness of the spiritual.
- Jesus invites us to do this.
