Introduction:

Psalms 51:5 says that we were "sinful at birth".
While we don't meet Jesus, we are spiritually blind.
We need light.
I John 1:5-7 : Only Jesus can take us away from the darkness of sin.

The Tabernacles' Feast.
It is in the context of this feast that Jesus says: I am the light of the world.
It had this name because during the seven days of this feast, people lived in tents.
It was the last feast of the year and was related to the harvest.
During the week were sacrificed 70 calves, two sheep, 14 lambs and one goat.
The people were thankful to the Lord who blessed them with abundance in the field.

The place where Jesus pronounced himself.
The temple in Jerusalem had various patios.
Jesus spoke on the women's patio.
There, they placed four large candelabrums, which were lit up by the end of the first day, illuminating the temple and even some parts of the city. Then, Jesus says: "Are you seeing these candelabrums? The light that comes from them? Because I am the light of the world".

The Jews' reaction
Jesus's statement causes impact. Why?
In the Jewish thought, Light was related to the Messiah.
Let's take a look: Psalms 27:1 and Isaiah 60:19.
This is a strong statement from Jesus,
John 8:12 , "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness". "... will walk in darkness..." means follow the Jewish authorities.
