Joseph and Jesus - (08/29/04 - Night)

Texts: Genesis 37:28 and Matthew 26:14-16

Introduction

  • A summary of Joseph’s history.Family and slavery in Egypt.
  • There is a great famine throughout the land and Joseph is the Prime Minister.
  • Genesis 42:1-2. Jacob sends his sons to Egypt.
A) Joseph forgives his brothers.
  • Genesis 42:23,24
  • Genesis 43:30
  • Genesis 45:1-5
  • Genesis 45:14 and Genesis 45:15. Joseph wept 5 times.They were cryings of forgiveness.
  • It’s difficult to forgive a brother,therefore,it’s more difficult to forgive our enemies.
  • Because forgiveness is not natural in us.We can do it only through Jesus.
  • Forgiving is to remember everything and place it by the cross.
  • Luke 19:41-Jesus also cries when he faces rejection
B) Joseph uses his influence to save his family
  • Genesis 45:27-28
  • It was revenge time.Death penalty time.
  • But Joseph decided to bless his family.Wagons,the best of the land,food,clothes,donkeys.
  • Genesis 47:11”the best part of the land”.
  • John 14:1-3. Jesus has prepared a better place for us.
C) Joseph is made Ruler of Egypt
  • Genesis41:41-44.Ring,linen clothing,the second chariot.Signs of power.
  • Genesis 41:43”Kneel down”.
  • Philippians 2 :10-11.Every knee will bow at the presence of Jesus.

Conclusion

  • Are we impressed with Joseph?
  • But Jesus is better than Joseph
1. Jesus forgives all of us.
  • Colossians 2:13-14. "canceled the charges”. It’s been paid.
  • Luke 23:24. “Father,forgive these people”.
2. Jesus saves all of us
  • Luke 19:10”lost”, out of place.
  • It’s not a limited salvation,just for the family,but it’s for everybody.
3. Jesus is at God’s right hand.
  • Mark 14:60-62 and Mark 16:19
  • Jesus is the perfect Savior.
  • I don’t tell you: Be like Joseph.
  • Come to Jesus and you will be like Joseph
