Three Shocking Contrasts (04/04/04)

Text: Luke 19:28-44

Introduction.

  • It is the beginning of Jesus’ last week here in this world.
  • By The account of John 11:57 the pursuit of Jesus is very strong.
  • The disciples they catch a little donkey. Fulfills Zechariah 9:9 .
  • Symbol of Peace. For the war the king would come in a white horse.
  • Courageously Jesus enters in Jerusalem to face Judas, the Pilate and the cross.
  • Which the shocking contrasts found in the text?
    Luke 19:38 - The disciples praising.
    Luke 19:39 - The Pharisees rejecting.
    Luke 19:41 - And Jesus crying.
1) The disciples praising.
  • Luke 19:39 , same song sang by the angelic chorus that greeted the birth of Jesus. Luke 2:14 - The disciples, after all they have seen they could only praise. ( Luke 19:37b )
  • The invitation today: Praises to the Jesus.
2) The Pharisees rejecting.
  • Luke 19:38 - the people says King.
  • Luke 19:39 - the Pharisees they say master.
  • In agreement John 11:57 , already seen above, the Pharisees are in the center the persecution of Jesus.
  • It is necessary relate to Luke 19:40 . "Before of God uses the Pharisees, would use stones to placard the gospel"
3) Jesus crying.
  • It is not crying of fear
  • It is of heart broken, because he was seen Jerusalem for the last time.
  • Why does Jesus cries for Jerusalem? Because there was only thrust for the political power. Intrigue. Pursuits. Sinful alliances between politician and religious leaders.
  • Jesus was in Jerusalem several times before. He was always rejected there.

Conclusion.

  • There was a time that Jerusalem heard Jesus, saw Jesus. Hear sermons, saw miracles. ( Luke 19:44 )
  • As today in the extent that the gospel is being preached.
  • The voice from your conscience is a visit from God. Who resists this voice, closes the door salvation.
  • Today: The church praising. Many rejecting. And Jesus crying. Why is Jesus crying? II Pedro 3:9 ".. Wanting that everybody be saved..."
