Synopsis:

Four periods of Israel’s history. After the last verse of Genesis 400 years goes by before first verse of Exodus. Written 1445-1405 B.C.

I. The period of slavery.

  1. Egyptian oppression,1:7-22.
  2. Events of the first years of Moses’s life
  • His birth and adoption, 2:1-10.
  • His intention to accept his brothers, 2:11-14.
  • His escape to Midian, 2:15.
  • His marriage, 2:21 (40 years goes by)

II. The period of liberation.

  1. The call of Moses at the Burning Bush, 3:1-10.
  2. His commission and divine given capacity, 3:12-22; 4:1-9.

  4. Aaron’s association with Moses; both ask Pharaoh to liberate Israel, 4:27-31; 5:1-3.
